چکیده

The electron transfer between an F − ion and Cu(111) and Ag(111) surfaces is studied by the wave packet propagation method in order to determine specifics of the charge transfer interaction between the negative ion and the metal surface due to the projected band gap. A new modeling of the F − ion is developed that allows one to take into account the six quasi-equivalent electrons of F − which are a priori active in the charge transfer process. The new model invokes methods of constrained quantum dynamics. The six-electron problem is transformed to two one-electron problems linked via a constraint. The projection method is used to develop a wave packet propagation subject to the modeling constraint. The characteristics (energy and width) of the ion F − ion level interacting with the two surfaces are determined and discussed in connection with the surface projected band gap.

PTCDA on Au(111), Ag(111) and Cu(111): Correlation of interface charge transfer to bonding distance

The electronic structure at the interfaces of 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) and the metal surfaces Au(111), Ag(111) and Cu(111) was investigated using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). By combining these results with recent X-ray standing wave data from PTCDA on the same substrates clear correlation between the electronic properties and the interface geometry...

Resonant neutralization of H− near Cu surfaces: Effects of the surface symmetry and ion trajectory

A comparative study of the resonant charge-transfer process of H− in front of plane-model Cu surfaces of symmetries (111) and (100) is performed using a two-dimensional Crank-Nicholson wave-packet propagation approach. Very different electron evolutions near the two surfaces are related to different structures of the respective band gaps and allow for the visualization of electronic interaction...

Long-lived excited states at surfaces: Cs/Cu(111) and Cs/Cu(100) systems.

One-electron and multielectron contributions to the decay of transient states in the Cs/Cu(111) and (100) systems are studied by a joined wave-packet propagation and many-body metal response approach. The long lifetime of these states is due to the Cu L and X band gaps which reduce the electron tunneling between Cs and Cu. In the (111) case, the decay is mainly by inelastic e-e interaction, whe...

Soliton-like Solutions of the Complex Non-linear Klein-Gordon Systems in 1 + 1 Dimensions

In this paper, we present soliton-like solutions of the non-linear complex Klein-Gordon systems in 1+1 dimensions. We will use polar representation to introduce three different soliton-like solutions including, complex kinks (anti-kinks), radiative profiles, and localized wave-packets. Complex kinks (anti-kinks) are topological objects with zero electrical charges. Radiative profiles are object...

Electronic and magnetic properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbons on the (111) surface of Cu, Ag, and Au.

We carry out an ab initio study of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbons on Cu(111), Ag(111), and Au(111). Both, H-free and H-terminated nanoribbons are considered revealing that the nanoribbons invariably possess edge states when deposited on these surfaces. In spite of this, they do not exhibit a significant magnetization at the edge, with the exce...
